Recently, I embarked on a profound journey of self-discovery. It was a path I hadn't fully explored before—a deliberate look at my life to find the common threads, habits, and traits, both good and bad, that define who I am today. My focus was on revisiting specific events that have shaped me, not just to understand them better, but to uncover my true purpose in this world. It was hard, deep work, the kind that digs into the very core of your being, only made possible because of the incredible support system I have at home and through other coaches.
We all have 'events' in our lives that define us, but so often, we leave them buried in the past, choosing instead to focus on the future. We don’t take the time to revisit these moments, many of which can be deeply triggering—this was certainly the case for me. But as I faced these fears, and walked through each step of these defining events, I realized that I was giving myself a profound gift. It was an opportunity to recognize the resiliency, the hardship, the strength, and the power that I hold within.
Through this process, I uncovered so many gifts that these events had provided me with. Revisiting them allowed me to see them through a new lens, acknowledging the growth they spurred in me. I gained new perceptions, a greater depth of emotions, and a wellspring of empathy and compassion—not just for others, but for myself as well. I also found clarity in how the world works and a deeper appreciation for the love my family has for one another.
This exercise was, without a doubt, triggering and filled me with fear. But by allowing myself to sit in these emotions and face them head-on, I was able to refocus my attention and reclaim my power. We are all a sum of our events, our thoughts, and our experiences. While I can’t suggest that this exercise is for everyone, it has provided me with a sense of acknowledgement, pride, confidence, and a greater awareness and appreciation that we all have 'events' that change us, shape us, and sometimes cause anxiety and fear.
In the end, this journey has taught me the importance of being kind to one another, as we are more alike than we are different. We all carry our own stories, and sometimes, those stories need to be revisited and honored for the growth they bring.
Embarking on a journey of self-discovery can be transformative, but it also requires intentional effort and the right tools to navigate the process. Accessing appropriate techniques and supports is imperative to your success and wellbeing. If you're interested in exploring more about this topic, send an email inquiry.
